I've wondered about this every time I finish taking a dump, spraying my **** with a bidet tucked inside the seat at the back. Because it leaves my **** more wet, I find I use more toilet paper.

So, maybe I'm doing this wrong. So how does one a bidet and end up saving toilet paper?

Upon waking the first thing I do is to deficate. I wont ingest anything yet not even liquid.

What I do is hose my anus and soap it then hose again. I donot wipe with paper or towel. I just let it dry in my underwear. I have been doing this since the 90s realizing tissue wiping is not enough. At the adjustment period still using tissue, hose & soap. But realizing watering & soaping is more than enough.

Now that Im ray peating I can do ghost wipes so its easier cleaning anus.

Yes. I don't know how it can dry in the underwear if the moisture gets trapped in between the skin folds.

By the way I use a common garden hose no nozzle that has a gentler pressure not a sprikle type bidet.

Here in the USA squat toilets like the ones in Asian countries are illegal because of plumbing codes. I tried to look for them before to replace my sit-down commode and that’s when I found out about the plumbing code. So I just squat on my sit-down toilet. Most westerners cannot squat properly.

this what they use in India. they wash with the cup or bottle of water, but then you need to use your hand; i suppose this is ok if you wash you hand with a soap afterwards, which Indians do not. No wonder that it is so easy to get sick in India, because they use the same hand to chop vegetables .The easiest solution is to buy the water gun bidet, it can be just connected to some of the water inlet. as to drying, it is a personal choice. i usually use a little soap liquid as well.

as to the idea that if one has a perfect poo, there is no need for cleaning, I disagree. you still need to clean up that area. by the way, I just read the book of Michael Crichton, 'eaters of the dead', (there is a nice movie based on it, the thirteenth warrior) and Scandinavians at that time did not even wipe; they were pretty dirty in general; I guess this is one way, animals also do not wipe or wash their bottom :)

another problem with TP is that if you need to go to toilet often, you begin to irritate this area causing to become sore.

I’ve got one of these spray things at home, absolutely amazingly convenient. If I have to desperately use the toilet outside, I’ll take a small bottle of water with me to wipe “me bum” too after the tissue ?

OK, now that so much has been written about the admittedly not too lovely habit of using toilet paper, I am left wondering, why is no-one (even RP?) appalled by another thing that I think is way worse than wiping one's **** - flushing your precious excrement down the sewer? Because this is causing incredible problems... it is causing soils to be impoverished and people getting increasingly ill from year to year from eating impoverished foods, farmers having to use more and more pesticides every year, polluting clean water, wasting energy etc. I highly recommend the book Humanure by Joseph Jenkins and the below text by Hundertwasser is extremely well put too (writing this is a happy user of a composting toilet of more than 2 years)...

No water, no canalization, no pathogenous agents, no spreading of diseases, no refuse, no transport of refuse, no latrines, no cess-pool, no liquid manure handling, no chemicals, no water-purification plant necessary, free from smells, water can be re-used as humus-soil. All you need is a pail, a board with two holes, one to ***t upon, the other for aeration, a lid, a stove-pipe, a small lamp or other source of warmth and humus bacteria to begin with.

In Sweden they have many brands of humus-toilets: Clivus, Mull-Toa, Mullbänk, Multrum and others. They are more modern than my own version, fully automatic and recommended by health authorities. And you can buy them.

I am really disgusted by the fact that majority of people in the west wipe their asses after toilet. Not even speaking about that fact that huge amount of forests are being cut to produce the toilet paper. I live presently in Thailand where bidet is the norm. It is hygienic, economical and natural. Sometimes I have to 'go' at the airport, and I feel so annoyed that I need to use the toilet paper. No matter how much you use it, you are still contaminated by your own ***t. What is wrong with the western culture in this respect? And just to add, the modern toilets are very unhealthy. Many people healed their gut by using the flat toilet as it is used in India. By squatting, you push your colon so it can perform its right action.

Sorry to break it to you, but no matter what method you use to clean up after, your butt hole area is teeming with fecal bacteria. I agree with you that the water method is better, but that's not going to clean the hydrophobic particles off of your behind. In fact it will just scatter them. If you ate a fat based meal and crap that out, a jet of water will not take those fatty particles off your butt.

The only thing that temporarily thoroughly cleans your butt hole is soap and water. Even then, the bacteria just replace themselves within hours. Think about it... we wash our hands with soap and water after the bathroom. Why not our butts? Would you just wash your hands with water only and call it a day?

Humans are in some ways dirty animals. Just accept it. The reality is that most humans just clean their butts as best they can after taking their daily dumps and maybe once every 1-3 (or more) days do a thorough soap cleaning of their bodies.

Nope, mine comes out spotless. Nary a stain on the drying cloth. You have to realize that it's an adjustable jet that when dialed all the way up it can be so forceful it hurts. But it doesn't need to be dialed up to max to come out sparkling clean.

Toilet paper has a ton of chemicals in it. It's recycled paper that has the equivalent of like grocery receipt lining and you are absorbing it directly into your body. Bamboo toilet paper is way better if you don't use a bidet, it grows way faster than a normal tree and they don't use weird chemicals to make it since it's not recycled paper.
