Here you go. Garrett Smith prefers sunflower oil , #ggenereux claims that coconut oil is no good because it delivers vit A all around your system and now biochemist Karen Hurd calls it coconut fad . Who would think...

So the takeaway is that coconut oil is great as a topical moisturizer for the skin, but not good taken internally.

But where does this leave Peat's parable of the pigs? Where the wise pigs who ate coconut oil became healthy and slim, while the foolish pigs who ate soybean fat became fat and marketable?

Actually soybean (oil) is not recommended on karen Hurd protocol due to estrogen and other stuff .
I think she doesn't really recommend consuming oils because they are concentrated fats though I saw some cooking recipes with added olive oil on her website.

Yeah... I love those butter croissants but then I have to suffer acne for a week or so and they are actually hard to digest.
Any way...RP himself never said croissants are good for you and he preffered skimmed or 1% milk for whatever reason.

But you have to eat oils separately from beans because they bind oils ( no matter good or bad oils )"

Maybe Garrett should look into Marshall's info on just exactly what oleic acid does to energy metabolism in the cell, before he thinks sunflower oil is so great.

Vit A was never added to foods here like it is elsewhere but the creep of vegetable oils was just as prevalent and the fatness and illness came along with it.

I won't be eating PUFAs in quantities any time soon.

I would pose question differently: Why sugars in excess stimulate the production of saturated fatty acids which happens in liver and as a result we got liver inflamation, congested liver, elevated level of fatty acid in blood and all the consequences related to that .
Excess glucose gets stored in the liver as glycogen or, with the help of insulin, converted into fatty acids, circulated to other parts of the body and stored as fat in adipose tissue. When there is an overabundance of fatty acids, fat builds up in the liver.
“Fatty liver caused by the high intake of carbohydrates can be as bad as that due to excessive alcohol intake, and it contributes to various diseases including type 2 diabetes,” said Sul. “The conversion of excess glucose into fatty acids occurs in the liver, but there are many steps in this process that have not been fully understood.”

I think processed refined oils, both saturated or unsaturated , when in excess will lead to problems. Same with refined carbohydrates.
RP didn't promote high fat diet nor did he love full fat milk. He belived PUFAs will kill you though sure he understood that it is impossible to exclude them from the diet. He was ok with olive oil, eggs, some pork and hummus .
His idea that you need to balance unsaturated fats by adding saturated (like frying pork in coconut oil) doesn't make much sense to me unless for convinience .

Guys, I think Karen is out to lunch on this one. Brad Marshall has a lot of videos like this one on his blog and youtube channel:
Brad Marshall is like some crazy version of Haidut with hair , he overcomplicates things , going into nitty-gritty of fat and sugar conversions which are just theoretical, trying to solve his problems with excessive weight, eventually coming to solution that being fat is just good for you , dreaded PUFAs that will hybernate you and cause stupor ...
Maybe it is more relevant to an average american used to fastfood in Mcdonald's, sure, all the salt , mayo , ketchup, food additives to increase taste will make you ravenously hungry, add to this coca cola and coffee with sugar and cheese cakes.... well, it is in the core of their bussiness to make you want to eat more

Interesting stuff. I like hearing opposite views. I think we need a practical study of coconut oil vs. Sunflower oil to sure this out.

Coconut oil as a protective carrier of dietary vitamin A fed to ruminants

Abstract​

Safflower and coconut oil were compared as protective carriers of dietary vitamin A supplemented to abomasally cannulated sheep. Vitamin A, 240,000 I.U., was predissolved in 11.7 g of safflower or coconut oil and bolused directly into the rumen of mature wethers along with 4 g of chromic oxide. The vitamin A was pre-dissolved in 0, 11.7, 23.4 or 35.0 g of coconut oil in experiment 2. Determination of carrier oil protectiveness of solubilized dietary vitamin A was based on recoveries of vitamin A supplement and chromic oxide in abomasal digesta 24 h post dosage. Vitamin A recoveries were significantly higher (P < 0.05) when dissolved in coconut oil (55.6%) compared to safflower oil (35.5%). Recoveries of vitamin A in abomasal digesta increased linearly (P < 0.01) with the amount of carrier coconut oil in experiment 2. Results of these experiments support the potential use of coconut oil as a protective carrier of ruminal labile vitamin A.

That's not what I meant.
It doesn't make sense that the body can make sat.fat from carbohydrates.
If sat fat is so bad,then why wouldn't the body make unsaturated fat from it?

Have fun with your sunflower oil, but I'm definitely going to pass on it

Why do the mice fed the most saturated fat live longer in this study?

Why do human populations living on seal blubber have a gene mutation that forces most of the PUFA to be metabolized in the peroxisomes, but those living on ruminant fats do not?

I'm not saying we should all run out and start consuming lots of hydrogenated coconut oil. But I do not think omega 3 and omega 6 fats are beneficial to consume. Karen Hurd obviously thinks so, but she doesn't get into the details as to why in the interview you posted.

Some people are probably adapted to PUFAs, especially people ancestral to cold climates.
